AHPal. 364 for χεῖρον; ApcMos 16; Just., Ath.) used as superl. of μικρός. From it a vernac. comp. ἐλαχιστότερος is formed (B-D-F §61, 2; W-S. §11, 4; Mlt. 236; M-M. s.v. ἐλαχιστότερος).
    pert. to being the lowest in status, least. In our lit. only rarely as a true superl. (Jos., Bell. 6, 198) smallest, least (PTebt 24, 67 [117 B.C.]; Josh 6:26) ὁ ἐ. τῶν ἀποστόλων the least of the apostles 1 Cor 15:9. Otherwise elative (s. B-D-F §60, 2; Mlt. 236) in this mng. and the succeeding ones, οὐδαμῶς ἐ. εἶ ἐν τ. ἡγεμόσιν Ἰούδα you are by no means least among the leaders of Judah Mt 2:6.
